Description

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) is a technique used to obtain infrared spectrum based on the amount of absorption or transmittance of IR in a sample. FTIR is frequently used in a wide range of structural analysis and non-destructive measurement applications.​

  • Also for teaching purpose KUT215 (ATR) and KAT 345 (ATR&Pellet). Please Contact Person In Charge After Booking.
  • MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY ARE FOR KBR Pellet ONLY
  • RM 5.00 for 30 min per slot. (Undergrad/FYP/Postgrad) (Max 4 slot per week / student without sample preparation)
  • RM 50 per sample for Internal USM (Other Schools)
  • RM 200 per sample for External USM
  • Range for FTIR ATR: 4000-600cm–1. (Please bring own Ethanol/Tissue for wiping residue)
  • Range for FTIR Pellet : 4400-400cm-1 (KBR/Tissue are not provided)
  • User are encourage to bring own pellet die
  • Sample type: liquid, solid, polymer latex, plastic, powder.

Equipment Use

ATR (diamond) is NOT SUITABLE for:

  1. Analyzing gases.
  2. Highly absorbing samples (e.g. thick polymers, carbon black, and some organic dyes)
  3. Samples with rough surfaces.
  4. Samples with low refractive indices (e.g., air, oils, or some polymers)
  5. Samples with strong luminescence.

ATR Sample preparation:

  1. Samples must be 0.5g - 1.0g or 0.5ml - 1.0ml.

KBr Sample preparation

  1. Sample must be totally dried.
  2. Samples must be 0.5g - 1.0g
