A spectrophotometer is an instrument used to measure the amount of light that a sample absorbs. It works by passing a light beam through a sample to measure the light intensity of a sample. These instruments are used in the process of measuring color and used for monitoring color accuracy throughout production. In analytical laboratories, a spectrophotometer is used for the identification and quantifying microscopic samples such as matching colors, kinetics, qualifying gems and minerals

The uses of a spectrophotometer are as follows:
