Description

A flame photometer is an analytical instrument used to measure the concentration of certain metal ions in a sample by detecting the light emitted when a sample is introduced into a flame. It is especially useful for detecting alkali metals like sodium (Na), potassium (K), and lithium (Li), as well as some alkaline earth metals like calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg).

Other Info

users have to prepare themselves all reagent and standard accordingly..

Equipment Use

How it works:

  1. Sample introduction: A liquid sample is atomized and introduced into a flame, where it is heated.
  2. Excitation of atoms: The heat causes the atoms of the metal in the sample to become excited, and when they return to their ground state, they emit light at characteristic wavelengths.
  3. Detection of emitted light: A photodetector measures the intensity of the emitted light, which is proportional to the concentration of the metal ions in the sample.
  4. Quantification: The intensity of the emitted light is compared to a calibration curve generated from standards of known concentrations, allowing the concentration of the metal in the sample to be determined.
