Embedding is the process in which the tissues or the specimens are enclosed in a mass of the embedding medium using a mold. Since the tissue blocks are very thin in thickness they need a supporting medium in which the tissue blocks are embedded.
The processed tissue is orientated within a metal mold which is then filled with molten paraffin wax. A labelled cassette is then placed on top and also filled with wax. The mold is then transferred to a cold plate to set before it can be removed to expose the final paraffin embedded tissue block.
