Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is a type of size exclusion chromatography technique used for determination of molecular weight of polymers, since molecular mass is an important factor determining the physical properties of polymers.

Gel permeation chromatography is also known as size-exclusion chromatography. In this chromatography system, molecules are separated based on their size. Little nonabsorptive interaction exhibits between the resins and sample molecules, resulting in a high retention of bimolecular activity.

GPC is often used to determine the relative molecular weight of polymer samples as well as the distribution of molecular weights.
